The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago is governed by a Board of Directors and is led by the Governor.
Dr. Alvin Hilaire has been serving as the Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago since December 2015. The Governor is responsible for overseeing the bank's operations and implementing monetary policy to ensure economic stability and growth.
The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT) was established on December 12, 1964, under the Central Bank Act of 1964. The foundation of the CBTT was a significant step towards achieving greater economic independence for Trinidad and Tobago, which had gained political independence from the United Kingdom two years earlier, in 1962
The Central Bank's entire share capital is held by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. However, the Act of Parliament which established the Central Bank in 1964 gives the institution operational autonomy.
